Car
If you're driving from Puerto Maldonado to Río Tambopata, start by heading south on Avenida Jorge Chavez. Follow the signs for the 'Interoceanic Highway' (Carretera Interoceánica) towards the town of Inambari. After about 20 km, you will reach a junction; take the right turn towards Tambopata. Continue on this road for about 30 km until you reach the entrance to Tambopata National Reserve. From there, follow the signs towards the Río Tambopata area. The total driving distance is approximately 50 km and may take around 1.5 hours, depending on road conditions. Be prepared for some rough patches along the way.

Public Transportation
To reach Río Tambopata using public transport, first take a taxi or a tuk-tuk to the main bus station in Puerto Maldonado. Look for buses heading towards 'Tambopata' or 'Inambari'. The bus ride will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and costs around 10-15 soles. Make sure to inform the bus driver or conductor that you want to disembark at the entrance to the national reserve. After arriving at the entrance, you'll need to arrange a local taxi or motorbike taxi to take you the remaining distance to the Río Tambopata area, which is about a 30-minute ride and may cost another 20-30 soles.

Once you reach the entrance of Tambopata National Reserve, you may need to take a boat to access certain parts of the Río Tambopata. There are local operators offering boat rides from the entrance to different sites along the river. The boat ride can cost anywhere from 50 to 150 soles depending on the distance and the type of boat. Be sure to negotiate the price beforehand and inquire about the duration of the trip.
