Getting There

    If you are in the city center of Coimbra, start at Praça do Comércio, a central square. From there, head towards Rua Ferreira Borges and continue straight until you reach the intersection with Rua da Sofia. Turn left onto Rua da Sofia. Follow this street until you reach the University of Coimbra. As you approach the university, you will see the iconic Joanina Library on your right. Continue walking past the library, and follow the signs towards the University’s main entrance. After entering the university grounds, follow the path leading uphill to the top of the hill where you will find the Barbican Gate. This historical landmark is located near the entrance of the university and offers a stunning view of the city.

    If you're near the Coimbra train station, you can take a local bus (Bus number 34) towards the city center. Get off at the 'Praça da República' stop.
