Getting There

  • Car

    If you're traveling by car, start your journey on Memorial Blvd (Route 138) heading east. Continue on this road until you reach the traffic circle. Take the first exit onto Ocean Ave and follow it along the coastline, enjoying the scenic views. After about 3 miles, turn right onto Fort Adams Drive. You will see signs for Fort Adams State Park. Continue straight for about half a mile, and you will arrive at the park entrance at 80 Fort Adams Dr, Newport, RI 02840. There is a parking fee of $10 for non-residents, so be sure to have cash or a credit card ready.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Fort Adams State Park using public transportation, take the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus number 67 from downtown Newport. The bus runs regularly; check the latest schedule on the RIPTA website. You will want to get off at the Fort Adams stop. From there, it's a short walk along Fort Adams Drive to the park entrance. Note that you will need to pay the bus fare, which is typically around $2.00 per ride.

    For those who prefer cycling, Newport has a number of bike rental shops available. Once you have your bike, head towards the Cliff Walk starting at Memorial Blvd. After enjoying the views, bike along Ocean Ave towards Fort Adams Drive.
