Getting There

• Car

  From anywhere in South County, head north on Route 1 towards Newport. Take the exit for Route 138 East towards Jamestown/Newport. Continue on Route 138 until you reach the Newport bridge. Once you cross the bridge, follow the signs for Newport and stay on Route 138. As you enter Newport, keep an eye out for signs directing you to Fort Adams State Park. Turn right onto Fort Adams Drive, and the park entrance will be on your left at 80 Fort Adams Dr, Newport, RI 02840. Note that parking at the park may incur a fee, typically around $10 for the day.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus service. From South County, you would need to take Bus 66 from Wakefield to Newport. This bus typically runs every hour. Once you arrive in Newport, you can transfer to Bus 67, which will take you directly to the Fort Adams State Park. Make sure to check the schedule for both buses as the frequency may vary. The bus fare is around $2.00 each way, so plan accordingly for your round trip.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, consider cycling to Fort Adams State Park. There are bike paths that run parallel to Route 1 and Route 138. Start from any location in South County, and follow the designated bike routes towards Newport. The ride is approximately 10-12 miles depending on your starting point. Once you reach Newport, follow the signs to Fort Adams Drive. The park has bike racks available for secure parking. Remember to wear a helmet and follow all traffic laws.
