Car
If you are driving, start from the center of Byumba city. Head south on Avenue de l’Indépendance toward Rue de l’Église. Continue straight for about 5 km until you reach the junction with the main road. Turn left onto the road towards Kigali. Follow this road for approximately 45 km. As you approach Kigali, look for signs for Kiyovu. Once in Kiyovu, navigate towards the Gorilla Statue which is located in a public square. There is no entrance fee to visit the statue.
Public Transportation
To reach the Gorilla Statue using public transport, head to the Byumba bus station and take a bus heading to Kigali. The bus fare is usually around 1,000 Rwandan Francs (approximately $1 USD). The journey will take about 1-1.5 hours. Once you arrive at the Kigali bus terminal, you can take a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi) to Kiyovu. The fare for the moto-taxi should be around 1,500 to 2,000 Rwandan Francs (about $1.50 to $2 USD). Ask the driver to take you to the Gorilla Statue.
Walking
If you are already in Kiyovu, you can walk to the Gorilla Statue. From the main road, head towards Avenue de la Paix and continue straight. The statue is in a public square and is a short walk from any point in Kiyovu. Look for signs or ask locals for directions if needed.
