Getting There

• Car

  Starting from the center of Gitarama, head south on Avenue de la Paix. Continue straight for about 2 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route Nationale 1. Turn left onto Route Nationale 1 and drive for approximately 10 kilometers. Look for signs indicating the direction to Rukumba. You'll want to take the exit toward Rukumba, which is a small road leading into the forest area. Follow this road for about 3 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Rukumba Natural Forest. Make sure to have a map or GPS enabled as the signage can be limited.

• Public Transportation (Minibus)

  From the main bus station in Gitarama, board a minibus heading towards Rukumba. The fare is typically around 500 Rwandan Francs. Inform the conductor that you are going to Rukumba. The minibus will take you directly to the area near the forest entrance. Once you disembark, you may need to walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach Rukumba Natural Forest. The path is relatively straightforward but be prepared for some uneven terrain.

• Walking

  If you are in the vicinity of Rukumba, you can access the forest by walking from the nearest bus drop-off point. After getting off the minibus, head east for about 1 kilometer along the dirt path. Look for markers or ask locals for directions. The forest entrance will be marked, and you can enjoy the scenic walk through local vegetation.
