Getting There

  • Car

    From the main entrance of Nyungwe Forest National Park, head southeast on the main road towards the town of Gisakura. Continue on this road for about 15 kilometers until you reach the junction near Gisakura. Take a left turn and follow the signs towards Gihinga. Continue on this road for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the coordinates FPG4+8M8 in Gihinga, Burundi. You should see signs for Gasumo Waterfalls as you approach. There is no entry fee to the waterfalls, but ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as some roads may be rough.

  • Public Transportation

    From Nyungwe National Park, take a public bus to Gisakura. The buses leave frequently from the main bus station near the park entrance. Once you arrive in Gisakura, you can hire a motorcycle taxi (known as 'motos') to take you to Gasumo Waterfalls. The ride should take about 30 minutes. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, which typically costs around 3,000 Rwandan Francs (about $3). Inform the driver of your destination by showing them the location on a map or providing the coordinates FPG4+8M8.
