Getting There

Car

If you are driving from any major city in Bushveld, start your journey on the R33 highway. Head towards the town of Vaalwater. Once you reach Vaalwater, turn onto the R517 road. Continue on the R517 for about 30 kilometers until you reach Welgevonden Private Game Reserve. Look for the entrance to the reserve, where you will need to pay an entrance fee (approximately R200 per vehicle). After entering the reserve, follow the signs to Makweti Safari Lodge, which is located within the reserve. The lodge is approximately 10 kilometers from the entrance.
Public Transportation

For travelers using public transportation, take a bus or shuttle service from major cities like Johannesburg or Pretoria to Vaalwater. These services are available regularly and typically take about 4-5 hours. Once in Vaalwater, you may need to arrange for a local taxi or shuttle service to take you the remaining 30 kilometers to the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve entrance. Be sure to discuss the fare with the driver beforehand, which should be around R300 to R400. After entering the reserve, you will need to follow the signs to Makweti Safari Lodge. Note that the lodge may also offer transfer services from Vaalwater; it's worth checking their website or contacting them in advance.
