Car
If you are driving from central Highveld, take the N4 highway towards Mbombela. Continue on the N4 for approximately 80 km until you reach the exit for the R37 towards Lydenburg. Take the R37 exit and continue for about 30 km until you reach the town of Lydenburg. From Lydenburg, follow the R540 towards the town of Dullstroom. After approximately 20 km, you will reach a junction; take the left turn onto the R36 towards Sabie. Continue on the R36 for about 40 km until you see signs for Songimvelo Nature Reserve. Follow the signs for the reserve, which will lead you on a dirt road for the last 10 km to the entrance of the park. Ensure you have a high-clearance vehicle as the road can be rough in parts. Keep in mind that there is an entrance fee for the nature reserve, which is typically around R50 per vehicle.

To reach Songimvelo Nature Reserve via public transport, start by taking a bus from Highveld to Lydenburg. Several bus services operate along this route, and the journey will take about 1.5 hours. Once in Lydenburg, you will need to hire a taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to take you to Songimvelo Nature Reserve, which is approximately 50 km away. It's advisable to confirm the cost of the taxi or shuttle in advance, as it can vary, but expect to pay around R300-R500 for the trip. Be sure to check the return schedule for your transportation, as options may be limited, especially in the evenings.
