Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Anuradhapura Railway Station, exit the station and head north towards the main road. Take a left turn onto the main road (Mihintale Road) and walk straight for about 1 kilometer. You will pass several shops and local eateries. Continue straight until you reach the traffic lights at the junction with the Kandy Road. Cross the road and keep walking straight. After about 500 meters, you will see a signboard indicating Maha Viharaya. Turn right and follow the path that leads you directly to the entrance of the temple.

  • Bicycle

    From the Anuradhapura city center, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops. Cycle towards the north on the main road (Mihintale Road) for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass by the famous Sri Maha Bodhi tree on your left. Continue past the tree and keep going straight until you reach the traffic lights at the Kandy Road junction. Cross the road and continue straight for another 500 meters. You will notice signboards directing you toward Maha Viharaya. Make a right turn onto the path leading to the temple entrance.
