Getting There

• Car

  From any location in the Eastern Province, head towards the city of Sigiriya. If you're coming from Trincomalee, take the A12 highway south towards Habarana. Once you reach Habarana, follow the signs to Sigiriya, which is approximately 15 km away. If you're coming from Batticaloa, take the A11 highway to Polonnaruwa, then the A12 to Sigiriya. Upon reaching Sigiriya, look for the Pidurangala Rock sign, which is about 3 km from the Sigiriya entrance. There is parking available near the base of the rock, but spaces may fill up quickly during peak hours.

• Public Transportation - Bus

  If you prefer public transport, take a bus from your current location to Sigiriya. Buses frequently run from major towns in the Eastern Province to Sigiriya, but schedules may vary. Once you arrive at the Sigiriya bus station, you can either take a tuk-tuk or walk to Pidurangala Rock. The rock is approximately 3 km from the bus station. A tuk-tuk ride should cost around LKR 300-500, and it’s a good idea to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

• Tuk-Tuk

  If you are already in Sigiriya and want to reach Pidurangala Rock, you can easily hire a tuk-tuk. The ride from the Sigiriya entrance or nearby hotels to the base of Pidurangala Rock typically costs around LKR 300-500. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your trip. The tuk-tuks are convenient and will drop you off directly at the entrance of the rock, from where you can begin your hike.

• Walking

  For those who enjoy walking and are already in Sigiriya, Pidurangala Rock is within walking distance from the town center. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to walk the 3 km to the rock. Follow the main road towards the Pidurangala Temple, which is located at the base of the rock. The path is generally safe and offers beautiful views along the way.
