Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Kandy city center, head southwest on Dalada Vidiya (Temple Road) towards the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). Continue straight until you reach a junction. At this junction, turn right onto the Kandy - Mahiyangana Road (A26). Follow this road for about 1 kilometer. Look for signs indicating Udawatta Kele Sanctuary on your left. There is a small parking area available for visitors.

    To reach Udawatta Kele using public transport, start by taking a local bus from Kandy city center to the Kandy - Mahiyangana route. Buses frequently depart from the Kandy Bus Station located near the city center. You should ask the conductor to let you know when to get off at the Udawatta Kele stop. The fare is typically around 20-30 LKR. Once you get off, you may need to walk approximately 500 meters to reach the sanctuary entrance.

  • Walk

    If you are already near the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth), you can walk to Udawatta Kele. From the Temple, head east along Temple Road, then take a right onto the Kandy - Mahiyangana Road (A26). After about a 15 to 20-minute walk, you will find the entrance to Udawatta Kele Sanctuary on your left. Wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be uneven.
