Getting There

Walking
To reach Monara Gala Mountain (Peacock Hill) from the Kandy Lake area, start at the Kandy Lake and head northeast towards the Kandy National Museum. Continue past the museum, and then take the first left onto Sangaraja Mawatha. Follow this road until you reach the junction with the Peradeniya Road (A1). Cross the road carefully and continue straight onto the Kandy-Peradeniya Road. After about 1 km, you will see a sign for Monara Gala Mountain on your left. Turn left and follow the road uphill for approximately 500 meters until you reach the entrance to the hiking area.

Tuk-Tuk
If you prefer to take a tuk-tuk, head to the nearest tuk-tuk stand in Kandy. You can find one near the Kandy Lake or near the Kandy Railway Station. Tell the driver you want to go to Monara Gala Mountain (Peacock Hill). The ride will take about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. The driver will drop you off at the entrance to the hiking area.

Public Bus
To get to Monara Gala Mountain by public bus, walk to the main bus station in Kandy, which is located near the Kandy Railway Station. Look for buses heading towards Peradeniya or Gampola. Ask the conductor to let you off at the stop for Monara Gala Mountain. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you get off, follow the signs to the hiking entrance, which is about a 10-minute walk uphill.
