Getting There

  • Walking

    If you're starting from the Kandy Clock Tower, head east on Dalada Veediya towards the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). Continue straight until you reach the roundabout at the end of Dalada Veediya. Take the second exit onto Sangamitta Mawatha. You'll pass the Kandy Museum on your left. Continue on Sangamitta Mawatha for about 900 meters until you see the sign for Udawatta Kele Sanctuary on your right. The entrance is located at the Forest Department Office. The total walking distance is approximately 1.5 kilometers and should take around 20-25 minutes.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    From the Kandy City Center or any central location in Kandy, you can easily hire a tuk-tuk. Tell the driver you want to go to Udawatta Kele Sanctuary, located at the Forest Department Office on Sangamitta Mawatha. The ride will take about 10 minutes, depending on traffic, and should cost around 200-300 LKR. Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of the sanctuary.

  • Public Bus

    Take a local bus from the Kandy central bus station heading towards the direction of Peradeniya or Katugastota. Make sure to check the bus destination on the front as some may not go to Udawatta Kele. Get off at the Sangamitta Mawatha stop. From there, walk back a few meters towards the direction of the bus and look for a sign directing you to Udawatta Kele Sanctuary. The total travel time may take around 30-40 minutes depending on the bus schedule and waiting time.
