Car
If you are traveling by car within the Knuckles Mountain Range, start from the town of Hunnasgiriya. From Hunnasgiriya, take the road towards the Minipe area. After approximately 10 km, you will reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork towards Yahangala. Continue on this road for another 8 km. You will notice signs for Yahangala. There is a parking area at the base of the trail leading to Yahangala. Be cautious as some sections of the road may be steep and narrow.
Public Transportation
To reach Yahangala via public transport, take a bus from Kandy to Hunnasgiriya. Buses run regularly and the fare is approximately LKR 100. Once you arrive in Hunnasgiriya, look for a local taxi or tuk-tuk to take you to the trailhead leading to Yahangala. The taxi ride will cost around LKR 500 to LKR 800 depending on negotiation. This ride will take about 20-30 minutes. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they know the way to Yahangala.
Trekking
Once you arrive at the trailhead near Yahangala, prepare for a trek of about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. The trail is well marked, but can be steep in sections. It is advisable to wear sturdy trekking shoes and carry water and snacks. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Keep an eye out for local wildlife along the way.
