Getting There

  • By Car

    If you're driving to Galle Lighthouse, start on the Galle-Matara Main Road (A2) and head towards Galle. Follow the signs for Galle. Once you reach Galle town, look for signs directing you to the Galle Fort area. The lighthouse is located within the fort, at coordinates 6.0245613, 80.2193661. You can park your vehicle at the nearby public parking areas outside the fort, but be aware that there may be parking fees ranging from LKR 100 to LKR 500 depending on the duration. The lighthouse is a short walk from the parking area.

  • By Public Transport

    To reach Galle Lighthouse via public transport, you can take a bus from various towns in Southern Province. Buses run frequently from cities like Matara, Ambalangoda, and Hikkaduwa to Galle. Once you arrive at the Galle bus station, exit and walk towards the main road. You will find signs directing you to Galle Fort. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the bus station to the lighthouse. If you prefer, you can hire a tuk-tuk for around LKR 200 to LKR 400 for a quicker and easier journey.

    You can also reach Galle by taking a train from Colombo or other southern towns. The Galle Railway Station is conveniently located about 1.5 kilometers from the lighthouse. After arriving at the Galle station, you can either walk (approximately 20-25 minutes) or take a tuk-tuk to the lighthouse. The tuk-tuk fare will be around LKR 200. If you decide to walk, head towards the main road and follow the signs for Galle Fort.
