Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Yala National Park to Horagolla National Park, start by heading northwest on the A2 road towards Tissamaharama. Continue on the A2 for about 27 km until you reach the junction with the A14 road. Turn left onto the A14 and drive for approximately 70 km. You will pass through towns such as Wellawaya and Ella. After reaching Nittambuwa, look for signposts directing you to Horagolla National Park, which is located just off the main road. The total driving distance is around 100 km and will take roughly 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic conditions.

• Public Transportation

  To get to Horagolla National Park using public transportation, first take a bus from Yala National Park to Colombo. From Yala, you can catch a bus heading towards Colombo from the nearest bus station. The journey will take approximately 4 to 5 hours. Once in Colombo, transfer to a bus heading to Nittambuwa. Buses from Colombo to Nittambuwa run frequently, and the journey will take about 1 to 1.5 hours. After reaching Nittambuwa, you may need to hire a tuk-tuk or a taxi to take you directly to Horagolla National Park, which is about 10 km away from the bus station. The total cost for bus fares should be around 300-500 LKR for the entire trip.

  For a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Yala National Park to Horagolla National Park. This option is more expensive but offers convenience, especially if you are traveling in a group. The taxi ride will take around 2.5 to 3 hours, covering a distance of about 100 km. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand; expect to pay between 5000 to 8000 LKR for the trip, depending on your negotiation skills and the taxi service used.
