Konst på Hög occupies the summit and flanks of Kvarntorpshögen, a monumental remnant of the region’s oil‑shale and processing industry. The contrast between minimalist, figurative and experimental sculptures and the rough, sometimes still‑warm ash slopes gives the park an uncanny, cinematic quality. Pieces are arranged so the works and the terrain respond to one another: sculptures frame the skyline, rest in depressions, or punctuate terraces where the slag heap’s texture and colours form a dramatic backdrop.

Kvarntorpshögen is both an artefact of industry and a semi‑natural habitat: the slag layers support scrub, grassland and insect life in places where soil has begun to re‑establish. There are also hot or unstable patches of ash in restricted zones; the site uses warning signs to keep visitors clear of potentially hazardous areas. Respecting marked paths preserves both the artworks and the fragile parts of the hill where regeneration is ongoing.
