From Locarno, head to the Locarno Bus Station (Piazza Stazione). Take the bus number 3 towards 'Valganna'. The journey will take approximately 25 minutes. Get off at the 'Valganna' stop, which is the nearest stop to Lago di Ghirla. From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the lake. Head northwest on Via Roma, then turn left onto Via dei Laghi and follow the signs to Lago di Ghirla.
Train and Walk
From Locarno, make your way to the Locarno Train Station. Take the train to Ponte Tresa, which takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Ponte Tresa, exit the station and walk towards the lakefront. From here, follow the signposts to Lago di Ghirla. The walk will take approximately 1 hour, and you will enjoy scenic views along the way.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous, you can also walk from Locarno to Lago di Ghirla. Start from the central Piazza Grande and head towards the lakeshore. Follow the promenade along the lake until you reach the edge of town. Continue on the marked hiking trails that lead to Valganna. This walk will take approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on your pace, but you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding area.
