If you are traveling by car, start from Mwanza city center and head southeast on the B1 highway towards the town of Nyamagana. Continue on the B1 for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for the A104 road towards Ngara. Turn onto the A104 and drive for about 50 kilometers. Look for signs directing you towards the Retima Hippo Pool; you will have to turn off the main road onto a dirt track that leads directly to the pool. To reach Retima Hippo Pool using public transportation, start from Mwanza. Take a daladala (local minibus) heading towards Nyamagana. The fare is typically around TZS 1,000 - TZS 2,000.
