Getting There

  • Car Rental

    If you are in Stone Town, rent a car or use a taxi service to reach Pongwe. Start by heading north on the B8 road, which runs along the coast. Follow the signs to Nungwi and Kendwa, and keep an eye out for the signs directing you to Pongwe. The journey is approximately 30 km and should take around 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Once you reach the XC55+VR9 area, look for the mosque as it is located in the heart of Pongwe village.

  • Public Transportation (Dalla Dalla)

    From Stone Town, take a Dalla Dalla (shared minibus) heading to Kiwengwa. Board at the Dalla Dalla station in Stone Town. The fare is around 1,000 TZS per person. After about 30 minutes of travel, get off at Kiwengwa junction. From there, you may need to hire a local taxi to take you the remaining 10 km to the mosque in Pongwe, which should cost around 10,000 TZS.
