Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the heart of Stone Town, head towards the old market area. Start at the Forodhani Gardens, and then walk away from the shoreline towards the narrow streets of Stone Town. Look for a sign indicating Hurumzi Street. Continue walking straight until you reach the Old Fort, which is a large stone structure. Ngome Kongwe is located within the Old Fort and Cultural Center. You will see the entrance leading into the fort where Ngome Kongwe is situated.

Walking
If you are coming from the Darajani Market, exit the market and head west along the narrow streets. Follow the signs pointing towards the Old Fort. You will walk past several shops and cafes. Once you reach the Old Fort, Ngome Kongwe will be inside the fort premises. Look for the entrance that leads you to the cultural center.

Taxi (for short distances)
If you are in a location that is too far to walk comfortably, you can take a local taxi or a bajaj (three-wheeler). Ask the driver to take you to the Old Fort on Hurumzi Street. It’s a well-known landmark, so they should know the way. Once you arrive, you can easily walk to Ngome Kongwe, which is located inside the Old Fort.

If you have access to a bicycle, you can ride through the streets of Stone Town. Start from the central area and head towards the Old Fort. Remember to navigate carefully as the streets can be narrow and busy. Once you arrive at the Old Fort, you can park your bicycle and head inside to find Ngome Kongwe.
