Public Transit
From downtown Amarillo, head to the nearest bus stop that services the Amarillo City Transit. Take Route 1 (East Amarillo) towards the Amarillo College, and get off at the 10th and Washington stop. Transfer to Route 4 (West Amarillo) at the same stop. Stay on Route 4 and get off at the 287 & 34th stop. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk to the First Gas Well. Walk north on US-287 until you reach the site, located at US-87 #287.

If you're renting a bike in Amarillo, start from the Amarillo Civic Center located at 401 S Buchanan St. Head east on 5th Ave until you reach S Taylor St and turn left. Continue north on Taylor St until you reach 4th Ave, then turn right. Follow 4th Ave until you reach US-87. Turn left on US-87 and bike north for approximately 3 miles. The First Gas Well will be on your right at US-87 #287.
