Getting There

• Private Car

  If you have access to a private car, start your journey from Acholi by heading south on the Gulu-Kampala Road (A1). Continue for about 325 kilometers until you reach the outskirts of Kampala. As you approach the city, follow signs for 'Kampala Central.' Once you enter Kampala, keep an eye out for the junction to Jinja Road (A3) and take it. After approximately 3 kilometers, turn left onto the road leading to the city center. Follow this road for another 2 kilometers until you see Owino Market on your right at coordinates 0.310157, 32.572772. Parking may be available nearby, but be cautious of traffic and road conditions.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To travel by bus from Acholi to Kampala, head to the nearest bus terminal (e.g., Gulu Bus Terminal). You can take a bus heading to Kampala, which usually costs around 20,000 UGX (approximately $5). The journey can take 5-6 hours, depending on traffic. Once you arrive at Kampala’s main bus terminal, you will need to find a taxi to reach Owino Market. Taxis from the bus terminal to Owino Market typically charge around 5,000-10,000 UGX (about $1.50-$3). The taxi ride will take approximately 10-15 minutes.

• Public Transportation (Matatu)

  From Acholi, you can also opt for a matatu (shared taxi). Go to a local matatu stage and look for one heading to Kampala. The fare is generally around 15,000 UGX (about $4). The matatu will drop you off at various points in Kampala. After arriving, you will need to take a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to Owino Market, which will cost around 3,000-5,000 UGX (approximately $0.80-$1.50).
