Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Mbarara, the main city in Ankole. Head northeast on the Mbarara-Kabale Road (A404) for approximately 40 kilometers. Keep an eye out for the signs directing you towards Kisoro. Once you reach the junction at Kisoro, follow the signs towards the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Continue on this road for about 23 kilometers until you reach the entrance to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. From the park entrance, you will have to pay an entrance fee of approximately 50,000 UGX. After the entrance, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the Muhavura trailhead, which is about 8 kilometers from the park entrance.

To reach Muhavura Volcano using public transport, first travel to Mbarara. From Mbarara, take a taxi or bus heading towards Kisoro. This journey will take around 2-3 hours and cost about 15,000-20,000 UGX. Once in Kisoro, you can hire a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) or a local taxi to take you to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park entrance, which is about 23 kilometers away. The cost for this ride will be around 10,000-15,000 UGX. After reaching the park entrance, you'll need to pay an entrance fee of approximately 50,000 UGX. Then, you can walk or hire a local guide to take you to the Muhavura trailhead, which is about 8 kilometers further.
