Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving, start from the main entrance of Mount Elgon National Park. Follow the signs towards Mbale. You will exit the park and take the Budadiri Road, leading you directly to Mbale town. Once in Mbale, look for Tom Masaba Road, which you will follow for about 2 km. Pioneer Grounds is located along this road, just before you reach the Ndere Cultural Centre. Parking is available nearby.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Pioneer Grounds via public transportation, first, take a matatu (shared taxi) from the park entrance to Mbale town. The fare is typically around 5,000 UGX. Once in Mbale, you can take another matatu or a motorcycle taxi (boda boda) to Tom Masaba Road. Ask the driver to drop you near the Ndere Cultural Centre; Pioneer Grounds is a short walk from there. Be prepared to pay an additional fare of about 2,000 UGX for the boda boda ride.
