Getting there

Car

If you are traveling by car, you will need to head towards the town of Masindi, which is the nearest major town to Budongo Central Forest Reserve. From Masindi, take the road heading northwest (the B62 road) for about 20 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating the turnoff to Budongo Central Forest Reserve. Follow this road, and you will reach the entrance of the reserve. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as some sections of the road may be rough. There may be a small entrance fee, so be prepared for that.

Public Transportation

To reach Budongo Central Forest Reserve using public transportation, first, take a bus or shared taxi from your current location to Masindi. Once you arrive in Masindi, look for a shared taxi heading towards the Budongo area. You may need to ask locals for directions to find the right taxi stand. The fare to Budongo may vary, so it's advisable to confirm the price before boarding. The shared taxi will drop you off at the entrance of Budongo Central Forest Reserve. Be aware that the last shared taxi from Masindi may leave in the late afternoon, so plan accordingly.

Motorcycle Taxi (Boda Boda)

If you prefer a quicker option after reaching Masindi, you can hire a motorcycle taxi, known as a boda boda. This is a popular mode of transport in Uganda. From the Masindi town center, negotiate a fare with a boda boda rider to take you directly to Budongo Central Forest Reserve. The ride will take about 30 minutes, and it's a more scenic way to experience the local environment. Ensure you wear a helmet for safety. Prices for boda boda rides can vary, but expect to pay around 20,000 to 30,000 UGX.
