Car
If you're driving from any location in Northern Region, head south towards Fort Portal. Use the main road (A109) which connects various towns in Northern Uganda. You will pass through towns such as Lira and Pakwach. As you approach Fort Portal, follow signs to Kibale National Park. The park entrance is approximately 26 km from Fort Portal, which you can access by continuing along the A109 until you reach the junction for Kibale Forest.
Public Transportation
To reach Kibale Forest using public transport, take a bus or shared taxi from any major town in Northern Region to Fort Portal. Common departure points are Lira or Gulu, with buses available from companies such as GAAGAA or Link Bus Services. The journey to Fort Portal can take 5-8 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Once in Fort Portal, you can catch a local taxi or boda-boda to Kibale Forest, which is roughly 26 km away. Expect to pay around 10,000-20,000 UGX for the taxi ride.
Local Taxi/Boda-Boda
Once you arrive in Fort Portal, you can use local taxis or boda-bodas (motorcycle taxis) to reach Kibale Forest. For a boda-boda, negotiate the fare beforehand; expect to pay between 10,000-15,000 UGX for the ride. The journey will take about 30-40 minutes. Ensure that the driver is familiar with the route to Kibale National Park.
