Private Car
If you're traveling by private car within Teso, head towards the town of Soroti. From Soroti, take the A1 road heading northwest toward the town of Kamuli. After approximately 15 kilometers, look for signs indicating a turn towards the lake. Continue on this road for about 12 kilometers until you reach Lake Kyoga. Ensure you have a GPS or a map handy as some roads may not be well marked.
Public Transportation (Taxi/Boda Boda)
To reach Lake Kyoga using public transportation, start by getting to Soroti town. You can take a taxi or a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) from various locations in Teso to Soroti. Once in Soroti, find a taxi park where you can board a taxi heading towards Kamuli. Inform the driver that you're headed to Lake Kyoga. The fare should typically range from 5,000 to 10,000 UGX. After about 15 kilometers, you'll need to disembark when directed by the driver, then take a boda boda for the remaining 12 kilometers to the lake.
Matatu (Shared Taxi)
You can also opt for a matatu, which is a shared taxi service. From your location in Teso, make your way to the nearest matatu stage heading to Soroti. The fare for the matatu is usually around 3,000 to 5,000 UGX. Once you arrive in Soroti, follow the aforementioned steps to reach Lake Kyoga via taxi or boda boda. Make sure to confirm the matatu’s final destination, as some may not go directly to Soroti.
Walking (Final Leg)
If you are close enough to the lake and prefer walking, after reaching the nearest road leading to Lake Kyoga, you can walk the remaining distance. Ensure you have sufficient water and sun protection, as the area may have limited shade. Walking from the nearest junction could take about 30-45 minutes depending on your pace.
