Travel Guide to Brecon Beacons

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, navigate to Brecon using the A40 road. From the A40, take the exit for Brecon (A470). Follow the A470 into the town centre. Once in Brecon, follow the signs for Brecon Beacons National Park. There are several car parks available in the area, including the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre car park. Parking charges may apply, typically around £2-£4 for a full day.

• Public Transport - Bus

  From nearby towns such as Abergavenny or Merthyr Tydfil, you can take a bus to Brecon. The main service is the 'T4' bus route which runs frequently and directly to Brecon. Once you arrive at the Brecon Bus Station, follow the signs to the town centre and the Brecon Beacons National Park. It’s approximately a 10-minute walk to the Visitor Centre.

• Train and Bus Combination

  If you are coming from Cardiff, take a train to Merthyr Tydfil. From Merthyr Tydfil, transfer to the T4 bus service that goes directly to Brecon. This combination will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on connections. Upon arrival in Brecon, walk towards the town centre to access the Brecon Beacons National Park.

• Walking

  If you are already in Brecon, you can explore the Brecon Beacons National Park on foot. Start from the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre and take the marked trails. The area offers numerous walking paths ranging from easy to challenging, with stunning views and points of interest. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear and carry sufficient water.
