A Family Legacy in the Mountains
Cantref Adventure Farm has been welcoming families for over 20 years, evolving from a working farm into one of Wales's most beloved family destinations. Situated within the protected landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park, the farm occupies a spectacular setting surrounded by rolling hills and mountain vistas. The family-run operation has built its reputation on genuine hospitality and a deep commitment to animal welfare, creating an atmosphere where visitors feel personally welcomed rather than processed through a commercial machine. The farm's longevity and loyal following speak to its ability to balance entertainment with authentic agricultural heritage.Animals and Hands-On Encounters
The heart of Cantref's appeal lies in its animal experiences. Visitors can interact with a variety of farm animals, from small creatures that children can hold and pet to larger animals throughout the grounds. The farm maintains high standards of animal care and hygiene, with staff knowledgeable about each animal's needs and behavior. Interactive feeding experiences allow guests to connect directly with the animals, creating memorable moments that go beyond passive observation. The farm's commitment to animal welfare is evident in the visible health and contentment of its residents, making these encounters both enjoyable and ethically sound.Riding Adventures Across the Beacons
For those seeking more active pursuits, Cantref operates a dedicated riding center offering experiences for both beginners and experienced riders. Pony treks cater to younger visitors and those new to riding, while full-day mountain rides take experienced riders through the dramatic landscape of the Brecon Beacons. The riding program includes scenic trail routes, professional instruction, and access to well-maintained horses. Lunch is included in full-day packages, typically featuring hearty options like burgers, sausages, or nuggets with chips. The combination of expert guidance, quality horses, and stunning natural scenery makes these rides a highlight for many visitors, whether they're local families or international travelers experiencing Welsh mountains for the first time.All-Weather Facilities and Activities
Beyond riding and animal encounters, the farm offers diverse activities designed to keep families engaged throughout the day. Indoor soft play areas provide shelter during inclement weather, ensuring that visits remain enjoyable regardless of conditions. The farm includes playgrounds, sledge rides, and various seasonal attractions. The on-site food facilities serve meals and refreshments, with options catering to different dietary preferences. The farm's all-weather design means that a rainy day need not diminish the experience, with covered areas and indoor entertainment ensuring families can make the most of their visit.Accommodation and Extended Stays
Cantref has expanded beyond day visits to offer overnight accommodation options. Visitors can choose from cosy cottages, glamping pods equipped with private wood-fired hot tubs, or a family-friendly campsite. These accommodation options allow guests to extend their stay and explore the Brecon Beacons more thoroughly. Guests staying overnight receive complimentary entry to the farm park, making multi-day visits particularly good value. The accommodation facilities reflect the farm's commitment to comfort and hospitality, with each option designed to enhance the overall experience of the region.Setting and Accessibility
The farm's location three miles from Brecon town center positions it perfectly for accessing both the farm and the wider attractions of the Brecon Beacons. The drive through the national park itself is considered one of Wales's most beautiful routes, with dramatic mountain scenery framing the journey. The farm is easily accessible via the A40, with clear signposting and brown directional signs guiding visitors from the main road.
