If you are driving, head towards Ayr from wherever you are in Bute. Take the ferry from Rothesay to Wemyss Bay, then follow the A78 road south towards Ayr. You can park at one of the public car parks nearby, such as the 'Ayr Central' shopping center car park, and walk to the Auld Kirk of Ayr from there.
