Travel Guide to Dryburgh Suspension Bridge

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Cairngorms National Park and head towards the A9 road. Follow the A9 southbound until you reach the A68 junction. Take the A68 towards Jedburgh and continue on this road for about 25 miles. Look for signs towards Melrose. When you reach Melrose, follow the signs for Dryburgh. The suspension bridge is located near the Dryburgh Abbey, and parking is available nearby. Please note that there may be a parking fee, so have some cash ready.

• Public Transport

  If you prefer public transport, take a bus from Aviemore to Edinburgh and get off at the Melrose stop. From there, you can either walk or take a taxi to Dryburgh Suspension Bridge. The walk is about 1.5 miles and will take approximately 30 minutes. Follow the signs towards Dryburgh Abbey, and you will find the suspension bridge nearby. The total distance is about 30 miles, so plan for a full day of cycling. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited stops along the route. Once you arrive in Melrose, follow the signs to Dryburgh Abbey and enjoy the scenic ride to the suspension bridge.

  For those starting from Melrose, you can walk to Dryburgh Suspension Bridge. From the town center, head north towards the River Tweed. Follow the riverside path, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles and will take around 30 minutes. Look for signs directing you to Dryburgh Abbey, as the bridge is located nearby. This is a lovely way to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
