Bene’t Street lies in the pedestrian-priority university centre between Market Square and the Grand Arcade. St Bene’t’s Church, Corpus Christi College, King’s Parade, and The Eagle pub stand within a one-to-three-minute walk. The street itself supplies the visual interest; the restaurant offers no notable internal views. Takeaway can be eaten in nearby public squares subject to local rules.

Practical visit timing

The restaurant opens daily at 11:30 and closes at 20:00. Midday and weekend queues commonly run 10–15 minutes. Late lunch or early dinner reduces wait times. Rain concentrates diners indoors. The compact space suits brief meals rather than extended dining. Student discounts appear on occasion; current offers are posted on site.

History in context

Opened in October 2014 in the former Benet’s Café by Simon and Michelle Cheney. The oven-only cooking constraint shaped the roast-meat concept. The location sits among other meat-led independents on a street once nicknamed “Meat Street.” It operates as a modern independent business within the historic core rather than a heritage site itself.
