Low tables and chairs create a communal, slightly lower-than-standard seating arrangement under dim lighting. The room holds about 60 covers and forms the main draw for visitors; there is no outdoor terrace or multi-room layout. The setting sits on the Petersfield stretch of Mill Road, surrounded by shopfronts, cyclists and traffic rather than scenic views or college architecture.

The kitchen prepares Algerian and wider Maghreb home-style dishes: tagines served in their cooking pots and opened at the table, couscous, brik pastry parcels and chekchouka. Sharing starters such as Kemiette platters are common first courses, followed by mains and often mint tea poured from height or a non-alcoholic mocktail. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are clearly marked. The restaurant treats all food as halal. No alcohol is served and no BYOB is permitted. An early-bird two- or three-course set is offered Monday to Friday at lunch and early evening, excluding Tuesdays and bank holidays.

Guests typically book a table in advance, especially at weekends when the restaurant states it is often fully booked. Walk-ins are accepted only when space allows. A meal unfolds over one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half hours: starters shared at the low tables, mains delivered in clay pots, and a closing mint tea or dessert. Lunch tends to be shorter; dinner follows a slower, two- or three-course rhythm. Staff assist with unfamiliar dishes. The experience suits couples seeking an intimate setting, small groups and families comfortable with low seating and spice levels.

The restaurant lies on Cambridge's independent, multicultural high street west of the railway bridge, among other small restaurants and shops serving the local residential community. It is not located in the historic college core and does not function as a tourist-coach destination. The same operators run the nearby charcoal-grill restaurant Al Casbah, established in 1997. Bedouin itself opened in 2011 and received the Best Restaurant in Cambridge award at the British Restaurant Awards in 2022.

The site is reached easily from central Cambridge. Walking from Parker's Piece takes eight to twelve minutes along Mill Road; from Market Square the walk extends to fifteen to twenty minutes. From Cambridge station the route via Tenison or Devonshire Road takes ten to fifteen minutes. City buses on route 2 stop nearby. Cycling is practical along the busy Mill Road corridor. Private cars face restricted access because of the bus gate at Mill Road bridge; the nearest public car park is the small Gwydir Street facility with limited spaces and time restrictions during charging hours.

The venue operates without a wine list or conventional pub atmosphere. Seating comfort receives mixed comments because of the low chairs. Wheelchair access, step-free entry and accessible toilets are not documented on the official site. High chairs and baby-change facilities are also unconfirmed. The restaurant offers table service, printed menus and a 10% discretionary service charge. Takeaway and delivery exist but the primary experience remains dine-in.
