Discover more about Trinity Restaurant
Setting and building
The restaurant occupies 15 Trinity Street, a narrow three-storey red-brick townhouse built in the first half of the 18th century and listed Grade II in 1950. The façade retains its original shop front, north doorway, fanlight and cherub-head keystone, while the interior has been updated to a contemporary-classic scheme of wood cladding, wooden floors and leather banquettes. Ground-floor and basement dining rooms together seat around 40 covers. Window tables face Trinity College’s Great Gate and the pedestrianised cobbles of Trinity Street.
Menu and service
The kitchen specialises in fully enclosed homemade pies accompanied by mash and three vegetables. Current options include cheese-and-onion, cauliflower katsu and meat varieties priced £16.90–£19.90. Starters, sausage and mash, fish pot pie, pan-roasted lamb, puddings and afternoon tea with Fortnum & Mason teas complete the offer. Takeaway pies and sausage rolls are available. Table service is relaxed and informal; alcohol, tea and coffee are served throughout opening hours.
Visitor experience
Most guests arrive for a full meal lasting 90–150 minutes. The atmosphere is lively yet unhurried, with mixed tables and banquettes suited to couples, families or solo diners. Reservations are recommended at weekends and during university events. The location works equally well for a tourist lunch stop, a casual evening meal or a light bite during a day exploring the colleges.
Access and surroundings
The premises sit in the pedestrian-priority historic centre. Walking from Market Square or King’s Parade takes a few minutes. Cambridge station is 20–25 minutes on foot or 14–20 minutes by bus. No on-site parking exists; nearest car parks are Park Street and Grand Arcade, five to ten minutes’ walk away. The building has steps between levels and is not confirmed as wheelchair accessible.
Hours and seasonality
The restaurant closes Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesday to Friday service runs 12:00–15:00 and 17:00–22:00; Saturday 12:00–22:30; Sunday 12:00–21:30. Tourist footfall on Trinity Street remains high year-round, with stronger demand during university terms, May Week, graduations and summer holidays. Weather has little effect on the indoor dining experience.
Practical notes
Casual dress is appropriate. Card payment is accepted. The venue forms part of Cambridge’s Central Conservation Area and offers no outdoor seating or dedicated visitor facilities beyond standard restaurant amenities.
