Continue on Ruta 1 until you reach the intersection with Route 21 (Ruta 21). Turn onto Ruta 21 and follow the signs for Colonia del Sacramento. Once you arrive in Colonia, follow local signs to the historical area of Ciudad Vieja. There is no toll on this route, but be aware of fuel costs. Parking is available in designated areas around Ciudad Vieja, which may charge a small fee.
Public Transportation
To reach Ciudad Vieja using public transportation, you can take a bus to Colonia del Sacramento from Montevideo or other cities in the Central Region. The bus terminal in Montevideo (Terminal Tres Cruces) offers several daily services to Colonia. The journey typically lasts around 2 to 3 hours, and ticket prices range from 300 to 600 Uruguayan Pesos (UYU) depending on the bus company. Upon arriving at the Colonia bus terminal, you can either walk (approximately 20 minutes) to Ciudad Vieja or take a local taxi for a small fee (around 150 UYU).
Taxi or Rideshare
If you prefer a more direct route once in Colonia del Sacramento, consider taking a taxi or using a rideshare app if available. From the Colonia bus terminal, a taxi ride to Ciudad Vieja should take around 10 minutes and cost approximately 150 to 200 UYU depending on traffic. Make sure the taxi uses a meter or agree on a fare before starting your journey.
