Car
If you're driving from major cities in North Central Coast like Hue or Da Nang, take National Route 1A southbound towards Quang Binh Province. Once you reach the town of Dong Hoi, follow the signs to the Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. From Dong Hoi, it’s approximately a 45-minute drive to the entrance of the park at Tân Trạch. Make sure to have a GPS or a map as some parts of the road may be less marked.
Public Transportation
From Hue, take a bus to Dong Hoi. Buses run frequently, and the journey takes about 4-5 hours. Upon arriving in Dong Hoi, you can find local buses or taxis that can take you to the Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. Taxis may be more convenient but expect to pay around 300,000 VND (~$13 USD) for the trip. Make sure to specify that you want to go to Tân Trạch, the nearest area to Hang Sơn Đoòng.
Local Transportation (within the park)
Once you arrive at Tân Trạch, you'll need to book a guided tour to access Hang Sơn Đoòng as it is not open for independent travelers. Tours are typically arranged through local tour operators and require advance booking. Make sure to book your tour ahead of time, as they can be quite popular, especially during peak tourist seasons. Prices for guided tours can vary but generally range from 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 VND (~$130-$220 USD) per person, including meals and camping gear.
