Starting from the Fredericksburg Visitor Center located at 706 Caroline St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401, exit the building and head south on Caroline Street toward William Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with George Street. Turn left onto George Street. Follow George Street until you reach the intersection with Sunken Road. Turn right onto Sunken Road. Continue walking along Sunken Road for about half a mile. You will soon see the Kirkland Monument on your left, situated in the Sunken Road area of the Fredericksburg battlefield.

From the Fredericksburg Visitor Center, walk to the nearest bus stop located at the corner of Caroline and William Streets. Board the bus heading south on Route 1.
