Public Transit (Bus)
Start at the Roanoke City Market area. Catch the Valley Metro Bus Route 1 or 2 heading towards the North. Ride the bus until you reach the stop at '1010 Blue Ridge Pkwy'. From the bus stop, head east on Blue Ridge Parkway for about 0.5 miles. You'll find the N & W Railroad Overlook on your left. Look for the signs indicating the overlook.
Walking
If you are staying in downtown Roanoke, you can walk to N & W Railroad Overlook. Start at the Roanoke City Market and head northwest on Salem Ave SW. Continue onto 2nd St SW, then take a left onto Franklin Rd SW. After about 0.7 miles, turn right onto Blue Ridge Parkway. Walk approximately 1 mile along the Parkway, and the overlook will be on your right. The total walk is about 2 miles and will take approximately 40 minutes.
Biking
For a more scenic route, consider biking. Rent a bike from a local rental shop in downtown Roanoke. Start at the Roanoke River Greenway and follow it until you reach the intersection with Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn left onto Blue Ridge Parkway and bike north. The overlook will be on your right after about 1.5 miles from the intersection. The ride is roughly 3 miles and should take around 15-20 minutes, depending on your pace.
