Getting There

  • Car

    If you're already inside Shenandoah National Park, head to Skyline Drive, which runs the length of the park. From the Thornton Gap Entrance Station, drive south on Skyline Drive for approximately 10 miles. Look for the trailhead for Nicholson Hollow Trail at mile marker 6.5. There is a small parking area available. Note that there is a $30 entrance fee for a vehicle, valid for 7 days.

  • Public Transportation

    Public transportation options are limited in Shenandoah National Park. However, you can take a bus to Luray, Virginia, which is the nearest town. From Luray, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to the park entrance. Once at the Thornton Gap Entrance Station, follow the same directions as for car travel: drive south on Skyline Drive to mile marker 6.5 to find the Nicholson Hollow Trailhead.
