To reach the Lightship Portsmouth Museum from Virginia Beach using public transit, start by locating the nearest bus stop for Hampton Roads Transit (HRT). Take the Route 20 bus towards Norfolk. This bus will take you to the Norfolk Transit Center. From there, switch to the Route 1 bus towards Portsmouth. After approximately 30 minutes, you will arrive at the 'Portsmouth City Hall' stop. Once you disembark, walk east along Court Street until you reach London Street. Turn left onto London Street and walk for about 0.5 miles until you reach the museum located at the intersection of London and Water Street.

For those who prefer biking, start at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk and head northwest towards the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway. Follow the trail leading to the Elizabeth River Trail which will take you through scenic views. Continue on the trail until you reach the downtown Portsmouth area. Once you arrive in Portsmouth, navigate towards London Street, and finally, turn onto Water Street. The Lightship Portsmouth Museum will be on your right at the intersection of London and Water Street.

If you are feeling adventurous and prefer to walk, you can start from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Walk north on Atlantic Avenue until you reach 31st Street. Turn left and head towards the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway. Cross the expressway and continue straight until you reach the Elizabeth River. Follow the waterfront path towards Portsmouth. Once you've crossed the river, head towards downtown Portsmouth, then make your way to London Street. The Lightship Portsmouth Museum is located at the intersection of London and Water Street.
