Car
If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards Mount Rainier National Park. From Ashford, WA, take the SR 706 East towards the park entrance. After passing through the entrance, continue on SR 706, following the signs for the Longmire area. At Longmire, turn left onto the road leading to the Wonderland Trailhead. Park at the designated parking area near the Northern Loop Trailhead. Note: There may be a park entrance fee, typically around $30 for a vehicle, which is valid for 7 days.
Public Transportation
If you are relying on public transportation, first take a bus from Seattle to Ashford. The Rainier Shuttle or other regional services can take you to Ashford. From Ashford, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to get to the Northern Loop Trailhead. Make sure to check the schedules in advance, as public transport options can be limited, especially during off-peak seasons.
Hiking
Once you reach the Northern Loop Trailhead, you can begin your hike. The trail starts at the parking area and is well-marked. Be sure to carry enough water, snacks, and a map or GPS device, as cell service can be spotty in this area.
