Experience Tatoosh Wilderness

Getting There

  • Car

    If you're already in Mount Rainier National Park, start by driving to the Nisqually Entrance on WA-706 E. From there, follow WA-706 E for approximately 15 miles until you reach the Longmire area. Continue on to the Paradise area via Paradise Road, which will take you through scenic views. Although Tatoosh Wilderness is not directly accessible from Paradise, the nearest access points are located near Packwood. After exploring Paradise, retrace your route back to Longmire and head south on WA-7. Follow WA-7 for about 16 miles, then turn onto WA-12 E toward Packwood. After about 10 miles, you will reach Packwood, WA, where you can find access points to Tatoosh Wilderness.

  • Public Transport

    While there are limited public transport options within Mount Rainier National Park, you can use the Sound Transit or Greyhound services to reach the town of Packwood. From Seattle or Tacoma, take a bus to Packwood. Once you arrive in Packwood, you may need to arrange for local taxi services or rideshare options to get to the Tatoosh Wilderness trailheads, as public transport may not reach the wilderness area directly.

  • Hiking

    Once you reach the vicinity of Packwood, head to the Tatoosh Wilderness trailheads. There are several trailheads to choose from, such as the Laughingwater Trail or the Tatoosh Trail.
