If you're driving from a central location in The Blue Mountains, such as La Grande, take Interstate 84 East towards Baker City. After about 35 miles, take exit 285 for OR-203 towards Elgin. Continue on OR-203 for approximately 21 miles until you reach the town of Elgin. From Elgin, take the OR-82 East towards Wallowa Lake. Follow this road for about 30 miles until you reach the intersection with OR-7. Turn left onto OR-7 and continue for about 15 miles until you see signs for the Elkhorn Mountains area. Depending on weather conditions, some roads may be gravel or unpaved; ensure your vehicle is suitable for such terrain.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, start by taking a Greyhound bus from La Grande to Baker City. This route typically takes around 1.5 hours. Upon arriving in Baker City, you can either rent a car or check for local shuttle services that may operate towards the Elkhorn Mountains. There are limited options for direct public transport, so renting a vehicle is recommended to reach the mountainous area effectively.
Hiking
If you are already near the Elkhorn Mountains, there are various hiking trails that lead into the mountainous region.
