Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve from a nearby city (e.g., Charleston, WV), take US-60 E towards the park. Continue on US-60 E for about 45 miles. As you approach the park, look for signs directing you to the various visitor centers and popular attractions such as the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, which is located at 38.0651° N, -81.0741° W. Make sure to have a map or GPS handy, as cell service can be spotty in the area.

• Public Transportation

  If you are traveling by public transportation, your best option is to take a Greyhound bus to Fayetteville, WV, which is the closest town to the park. From Fayetteville, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to the park entrance, which is approximately 12 miles away. Be sure to check the schedule for Greyhound, as service may be limited, and book your taxi in advance if possible.

• Biking

  For those who are adventurous and fit, biking is a popular way to explore the park. If you're already inside New River Gorge National Park, you can use the designated bike paths to navigate between attractions. Ensure you have a proper mountain bike, as some trails can be rugged. Keep in mind that bike rentals are not commonly available, so plan to bring your own.

• Walking/Hiking

  Once you are within New River Gorge National Park, you can explore the numerous hiking trails by foot. Popular trails include the Endless Wall Trail and the Long Point Trail, both of which offer stunning views of the gorge. Ensure you wear comfortable hiking shoes and carry plenty of water. Trail maps can be obtained at the visitor centers.
