Indigenous Homelands and the Fox–Wisconsin Waterway

The Fox River Valley lies within the long-established homelands and travelling networks of Indigenous peoples, including the Menominee and Ho-Chunk, with the Oneida also forming an important part of the wider region’s Indigenous history. The Fox River connected the Great Lakes with the Wisconsin River and the Mississippi system, making it significant for movement, exchange, and diplomacy. French Trade and American Territorial Expansion
