Car
From the center of Bighorn National Forest, head south on WY-14 towards the town of Burgess Junction. Continue on WY-14 until you reach the junction with US-87. Turn south onto US-87 and continue for approximately 20 miles until you reach the junction with WY-220. Turn east onto WY-220 and follow the road for about 40 miles. Independence Rock State Historic Site will be on your right, just off the highway. Look for the signs indicating the site.

While public transportation options are limited in the Bighorn National Forest area, you can take a bus service from nearby towns to Casper, Wyoming. From Casper, you would need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Independence Rock State Historic Site, which is about 50 miles southwest from Casper. Be sure to check local bus schedules in advance, as they may not run frequently.

For those adventurous enough to bike, you can start from the Bighorn National Forest and take WY-14 south until you reach the junction with US-87. From there, continue south on US-87 until you reach WY-220. Turn east on WY-220 and follow it to Independence Rock.
