What to expect
We will walk through the Barrio de San Blas, known as the "Balcon del Cusco", where workshops and shops of artisans and artists are developed. An example of this art are the world famous archangels with long necks, multicolored and emblematic, made of wood and pasta. Then we will visit some tourist and cultural attractions of the city like the pulpit of San Blas, masterpiece of the colonial Andean art that is found in the Church of San Blas. The most important quality of this tourist area is that it contains a spectacular pulpit carved in cedar wood, which is the most surprising piece of artistic carpentry in the Spanish Churrigueresque style. Its elaboration is attributed to the architect and indigenous sculptor Juan Tomás Tuyro Túpac who elaborated the main altarpiece of the temple, where an exquisite exornation is appreciated that evidences a deep theological knowledge, also of style churrigueresco
This work of art is carved in a single piece of cedar by skilled hands in the management of the gubia. The Museum of Art precolombino, which exhibits in an orderly and evolutionary way: a Wood Room, a Nazca, a Mochica, a Huari, a Chimu, an Inca, a Viceroyalty and also the Golden Room and the Silver Room. The 403 works of art span from 1250 B.C. to 1532 A.D. The Inka Museum which possesses an enviable collection of archaeological pieces of the Inca culture and gathers a vast collection of Keros (ceremonial carved wooden vessels), fabrics, mummies, and idols in solid gold and silver, as well as weapons, tools and Inca pottery. And finally, the La Merced Church, known as the Minor Basilica of La Merced located one block from the Plaza de Armas.
