What to expect
Taormina
Taormina, one of the best-known cities of Sicily, one of the most visited in Italy, rises 205 meters above the Ionian Sea and benefits from an exceptional climate and geographical position.
Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria
The construction of the current church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria took place after the Capuchins purchased the previous church dedicated to the saint of Alexandria which was located outside the walls
Much smaller than the famous Greek Theater, the Odeon was built under the Roman Empire of Caesar Augustus Octavian in the 2nd century AD. C
Taormina Centro
Piazza IX Aprile is located right in the center of Corso Umberto and can be defined as the good living room of Taormina.
The Church of San Giuseppe, built between the late 1600s and early 1700s, overlooks Piazza IX Aprile, right next to the Clock Tower. A double flight of stairs leads to the entrance of the building.
The church of the Madonna della Rocca is located on the steep mountain overlooking Taormina, a few steps from the Saracen Castle.
Quattro Fontane di Taormina
Made in Baroque style, it is also called "4 fountains" by the 4 columns that are located at the corners of the central basin and which are surmounted by sea horses from whose mouth water came out which ended up in the basins below. The fountain was built in 1635 by order of the administrators of the time.
The Badia Vecchia palace was built in the fourteenth century and was initially a tower defending the walls of Taormina.
The Greek Theater or Ancient Theater is certainly the most representative and important monument present in Taormina. The ancient Theater of Taormina, which was born to host dramatic or musical performances, had been transformed during the Roman era to make room for gladiatorial games and naval battles. This led to the expansion of the orchestra, which in Greek times was intended for players, so as to be adapted to the new arena function.
The Corvaja palace is one of the most representative monuments of Taormina and overlooks on one side on Piazza Badia and Corso Umberto and on the other on Piazza Santa Caterina.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
